Tin Goose

We have seen the Tin Goose at the Swigart Museum and they say it is a 1947 tucker but Danbury Mint is selling a model of The Tin Goose and has it listed as a 1948 which is right. Also what number Tucker has the V-8 Engine.

The Tin Goose is a 1947 Tucker. The Danbury Mint is in error calling that model a 1948 Tucker.
No Tucker ever had a V8 engine. You may be confusing it with the one that was built in the late 1990's that has a Cadillac Northstar engine.

Walter,

Nice to see you on the board. You might want to explain to the poster (kamurphy49) that yours was the body placed on a 64 Mercury running gear. Any and all information you care to write about this (Even if it has been answered on the board before, I do not know but I know some members do not like to repeat information over and over) I am sure would be fascinating reading to the newbie's. Yours is a one of a kind. That is to say "also" that there was a time when these cars were considered as trash, junk, whatever (one I heard was painted PINK).

And to just a general point for the board to review ("Joe"), it would be nice if there was a notice somewhere when a new photo of any of the Tuckers are added to the website. I would say that many people send you photos as that some are added to the specific car but unless you go there you do not know, Hey just a suggestion.

Looking forward to "hopefully" seeing both you and Richard and the next 2 meetings at least, they are near to my neck of the woods (Detroit).

V-8 TUCKER

Postby plancor 792 » Thu Sep 14, 2006 3:38 pm

yES SIR, 1046 DOES HAVE A FORD V-8 BUT THAT ENGINE IS MOUNTED UP FRONT ON A MERCURY CHASSIS, NOT IN THE REAR ON A TUCKER CHASSIS. TUCKER 1046 WAS ORIGINALLY CHANGED OVER TO AN OLDSMOBILE FRONT ENGINE SETUP BY NICK JENIN WHEN NICK OWNED 9 TUCKER'S IN THE 50'S. WHEN JOHN JANECEK PURCHASED THE CAR HE PULLED THE ENTIRE FRAME AND DID A BEAUTIFUL JOB OF FITTING THE MERCURY CHASSIS INTO THE TUCKER BODY.

Richard,

Thanks for that update on Walter's car.

But Walter, do you have anything to share about the car, when you bought it, what was done to it, what you have done to it, you know little things like that.

I find the most interesting things "in" cars I have bought our have been passed down to me, letters from old owners, lost items, ect. In fact the funny thing was I found a class ring in the black tar sound insulation under the rear seat of my mother's 1970 Ford XL Conv. I was able to track down the owner and give it back. It is little things like that that make the personality of a vehicle.

Cars have a life also, just as people do. When things get discarded or tossed during restoration of ANY car, some of its history is lost. Maybe I am too attached to items or things, but I can tell you the history of everything I collected that is in my basement bar. And quite a few of them are from some of the 40 or so cars I have had (OK give me a break, I have not had as many as a lot of you, but I still liked them all).
